The first mile: journey into the mind of a reluctant jogger.

The last mile is the most complicated, the most difficult some say, but as a reluctant jogger, I'd like to draw your attention to the first mile. It all started with a promise (although I'd like to consider it a wish) that I made public on FB that I was embarking on a journey to shed off some 15-20 pounds to an ideal 170-175 for my short 5.8' stature. The reason to make that public was to be accountable to someone. There is always someone who will remind you of what they read on your profile ... So it was last month when a friend brought the matter up and said jokingly "but you don put on weight, oh!" Like I needed any reminders! I have come up with all kinds of excuses why I was not working on my goal: it was too cold, the kids, it's too early, it's too late, it doesn't really matter I can still lose weight whenever I want, besides look at all those overweight people, am I not better than they are...? Yes, it is amazing what goes through the mind ...

Mending a broken Manyu: Peace, Unity, Reconciliation...

Keep the history. Distribute the blame as you see fit. The evidence stares blankly in the faces of all Manyu people: a fragmented lot. Case in point, MECA-USA Inc. and MECA-USA. As recently as 2009, these two organizations functioned as one with rival camps based on reasons as deep rooted as family feuds/rivalries and as frivolous as "girlfrined, boyfriend" to quote a "respectable" member of this community. I intervene in this manner because I have no influence over any Manyu person but myself. I hold no personal grievances with ANYONE. I have disagreed with EVERYONE at some point in my life and EVERYONE has disagreed with me too in the course of my over two-score existence. I came into the Manyu community in the USA about 10 years ago. I immediately felt at home. In 2005, I suffered an election loss when I campaigned alongside Dr. Besong as he ran for the Chairmanship. We lost and we all stayed in the association. Two years later, I campaigned with Dr. Pete...

The Emperor's men had him cornered. The street fighter was outsmarted. All nooks and crannies sealed. The tough man raised his hand in abandon. "Mbombo na how we dei do am?" he queried. One of the Emperor's men grabbed his belt's buckle, his longest fingers almost touching his "bijou de famille". The savior of "sauveteurs" seems very relaxed in this unusual scenario. He seems to know something everyone else ignores or lacks the foresightedness to discern. Promptly another group of the Emperor's men, the dreaded type, appear as is the proclivity when it is to correct dissent against the Emperor. Yet, the unperturbed Hero of the oppressed watches lazily, almost bored. "We’ll take him" one of them announces. When they get to the station, he could tell some of them were impressed to see him. He felt that somehow they respected him, but like everyone else, they had more consideration for their careers. The Commander motioned e...

Errance mentale: going personal on homosexuality.

Image
I didn't understand why anyone would be sexually attracted to someone from their own gender. I still don't. I don't know why I am heterosexual. I understand the Darwinian need for the propagation of the gene, hence reproduction. I get that, but as a male, why do I prefer women and not men? I don't know. There are smart and stupid people out there who have answers to our sexual urges and go further by prescribing norms our sexuality should conform to. As preposterous and bogus as those confinements may be, the traction, unbelievably, is on their side. I have lately been searching for answers as to why a man having intercourse with another man is wrong or harmful to me or society. Let's have a conversation on homosexuality. I'll go first and hope that I don't lose you along the way. I will use the term homosexual interchangeably with the term "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender or LGBT." I apologize to anyone who may find this offensive. My pa...

Mungo River East

Image
Mungo River East Its legend was laid as the revered track of death All who had the (mis)fortune to go its way Go past the river Mungo especially they say Came back bruised, charred, mangled ready for earth. The very day the marriage was sealed struck tragedy The short path from Tiko had claimed its prize: all but one. Blinded, disillusioned, disoriented, she made it to the town. Still beautiful, desired, raped. For her pains no remedy. The trusted ruffian guide on her new religion burden, (Premised on justifying her agony and passivism) Lightly, gently deposes the new gadget: patriotism. Now she has all: fiction, peace (a neologism all modern). Naive elders posing as statesmen say the other demiurge, For whom thanksgiving for 3 generations is insufficient, Knows she doesn't need her sight: please purge the urge! Her progeny perplex and confuse all: not sight proficient?! Strange things happen to people east of the Mungo river. EEA 120613

Independence, not a senate stupid!

Reflections of a bored Prince If there is one country on earth where the wishes of the people have continuously been frustrated, its hope constantly thwarted and submission completely conquered, it must be Cameroon.  In a move that may have  surprised a lot, but not close observers of this nation run like a private company, a recent Biyaism has surfaced, Senatorial elections. The news came as a surprise of course as is the proclivity with all agendas from the Presidency. Senatorial Elections will hold on April 14th. Never mind the threats from the SDF strongman, John Fru Ndi, and  feeble calls for boycott and other such attempts to stop the current process. Who are they kidding? This is Cameroon!  It is the place where the most passive and subservient people on earth live. There will be a senate come April 14th, and NOTHING will happen to stop that. The SDF cannot do anything, neither can anyone. I hope I am wrong... The announcement whic...
